My artwork

This term I have been learning about the elements of music so I can communicate to anyone from any culture. Music is a universal language and is a great way to communicate when meeting people from other cultures.

To show this learning I created a soundscape based on a poem I wrote. My soundscape is relational because it has different beats and tempos and I have used different sounds to create them like clapping, stomping, barking and talking to represent parts from my poem. The clapping represents the beat, the stomping represents castle rock, the barking represents dogs running through the trees and the talking represents the mall. Overall I’m proud of it.

Here's my photo

This is my soundscape

In the city
buildings gaze
down at me.

At the park
dogs run, barking
through the trees.

Inside the mall
fast food smells
so good.

Outside at the beach,
hard rocks scrape
across my feet.

High up above the port hills,
Castle Rock
stands tall in its pride.

On the way to school,
we talk to each other about friendships.
I gaze out the window watching the city go by.

Christchurch is my home.

  1. Top quality work right here Nakia. Your reflection is one of the best, you've really done well to explain why you used the instrument you used, and I LOVE your poem. Great job! Mrs P
